Kiran Nadar Museum of Art is pleased to present this unique collateral event of Kochi Muziris Biennale, in collaboration with Madhavan Nayar Foundation. All three institutions are aligned to create a space for arts in the everyday life of people of India. Mrs. Kiran Nadar notes, “This exhibition is part of a larger attempt of KNMA to collaborate with private and government art institutions all across the country, and increase the visibility of art. By taking our exhibitions and collection to such neglected or forgotten institutions, in a small way we are trying to support the up gradation of infrastructure of art and encourage participation in multiplying the dialogues in the art discourse and the intellectual debates of our times. For KNMA to organize such a large exhibition alongside the Kochi Muziris Biennale is to reach out to the local contemporary art scene in Kochi and in Kerala.” The exhibition of works from the KNMA collection brings into focus the works of five artists, K.P. Krishnakumar, K.M. Madhusudhanan, Surendran Nair, C.K. Rajan, and N.N. Rimzon; all are alumni of Trivandrum, formed in 1975, Trivandrum where they spent their formative years to initiate and evolve a radical art practice that has had a considerable impact on the discourse on Indian Art in the 1980s - 90s. The title of the exhibition, taken from N.N. Rimzon’s work suggests, a place within a place, a setting, and a social space for conversations or a resting spot; it speaks of utopia, magical stories, and apparitions.
