Talk by Nikhil Chopra : Memory Drawing
10 May 2013
Speaker: Nikhil Chopra
In this talk, organized under ‘Inhabiting the Museum' series, Chopra showcased his performances through the years whilst providing insight into them. The talk focused on his practice and theories vis-à-vis his work. He spoke as his alter ego Mirza and presented his biography. Through his works, the artist explained his performances, which center on inhabiting spaces, bridging the gap in a way between art and life, and try to find a space that is between his own history and the history of the location. He talked about his concern in his works with the desire to play with the moments of transitions, the spaces in between art history and how to occupy that moment, that shifting unsettled space. He explained how he sees his performances as journeys which gain preference over the destinations, and because of the uncertainty that is an uncompromising part of these journeys, so much of it is improvised spontaneously.
