Talk by artist Velu Vishwanadhan
2 September 2015
Speaker: Velu Vishwanadhan.
Discussant: Ina Puri.
Vishwanadhan led the audience through the long trajectory of his career, reminiscing about the birth of the Cholamandalam Artists’ Village, his artistic life in Madras, the weight of experiences gathered in Europe, and the impact it had on his own language. He pointed out that Indian artists have a corpus of inherited and acquired traditions which need to be analyzed and synthesized in order to thresh out identities for themselves. He also expanded upon his accident and how it served as a new mode of thinking and practice. The entire talk opened up as a conversation between Ina Puri and the artist instead of as a lecture. This allowed for a more expansive view into several key moments in his practice.
