Oneiric House / Round about midnight

The discussion centered on the offsite exhibition ‘Oneiric House/round about midnight’, and the speakers aimed to read into the many levels that comprised this project. It dealt with incongruent characters inhabiting spaces in a house, a dwelling visualized in the spheres of insomnia and somnambulism. The displayed works were independent of each other and yet juxtaposed to be seen together, developing an intrinsic connection. The house was seen as a metaphor of the self and hence the fragility of the human body was seen manifested in the derelict house. Despite being granted unabridged freedom in using the house for the project, resuscitation presided unanimously over demolition. However the decisions about how much could be restored or tampered were taken on site. The emphasis was to circumvent physicality, both of the human body and the house, and explore the psychological and interior envisioned in tandem. The counterpoints of uncanny and real as well as cleansing and abandonment were also important concerns deliberated on within the project.
