This conversation will unfold the nuances of artistic practice as an extension or evolution of the artist’s pedagogic approach and conviction within institutional spaces. It will expound through a recalling of how teaching approaches in institutions have evolved over two decades from 2004 – 2024.
Speakers bios -
Rakhi Peswani is an artist and a pedagogue with over two decades of art and teaching experience in various public and private institutions of higher education in India. Her work has widely been shown in institutional and curated exhibitions in India and abroad, significantly, to name a few, Mardin Biennale in Turkey in 2022, Curitiba Biennale in Brazil in 2019, Colombo Biennale in Sri Lanka in 2014, Hangzhou Triennale in PRC in 2013. Since June 2020, she has been working as Associate Professor of Practice at Ashoka University, Sonipat, Haryana. She acquired BFA in Painting in the year 2000 and MFA in Ceramic Sculpture in 2003 from MS University, Baroda. She lives and works in Sonipat, Haryana.
Noopur Desai is Researcher with Asia Art Archive in India, New Delhi. She conceptualised and developed digitisation projects including the Mrinalini Mukherjee Archive and co-curated exhibitions showcasing materials from this archive in New Delhi and Hong Kong. Her ongoing projects include Modernism in the Magazines, a digitisation project focusing on art and cultural journals and little magazines from India, as well as Primary Documents: South Asia, an anthology of art writings to be published by AAA in collaboration with Museum of Modern Art, New York (MoMA). Previously, Noopur co-founded and co-edited Hakara Journal, an online bilingual journal on art and culture published in English and Marathi from 2017-2022.
