City of Stars

The soil, still moist from the recent rains, has awakened the wild, open spaces along the Yamuna River. The delicate white blooms of 'Kaash Phool' (Sugarcane Grass Flowers) now dot the landscape, signaling the arrival of autumn—or as Bengalis call it, "Shorot Ritu"—a prelude to the much-anticipated arrival of Devi Maa Durga.

In the heart of Delhi's CR Park, there is a distinctly festive energy building as the Bengali community prepares for Durga Puja, their most cherished celebration. This event transforms into a five-day spectacle of devotion, culture, and joy. With only weeks to go, anticipation is in the air.

HIGHLIGHTS:

1) Visit the Kumhors (Potter's/Idol Maker's) Workshop: Witness the creation of Durga idols, as lumps of clay are carefully shaped into the divine form of Maa Durga. Discover the intricate process behind idol-making, a craft passed down through generations.

2) Meet the Artisans: Engage with the master craftsmen and learn about the complex techniques involved in creating these clay idols. Witness as they bring the goddess to life, hand-painting her exquisite features with precision.

3) Explore the History: Learn about the origins and evolution of Durga Puja, from its roots in Bengal to its vibrant presence in Delhi. Our storytellers will take you through the centuries of tradition and adaptation.

4) Unveil the Mythology: Our experts will share the rich mythological tales surrounding Durga Puja, alongside its social and cultural significance within the community.

5) Pandal Making in Action: Observe the creation of the grand "Pandals"—temporary structures that serve as the heart of the festival. Watch as skilled artisans decorate these massive spaces for the upcoming Puja.

6) Bengali Market Stroll: Experience a traditional Bengali market preparing for the festivities. Enjoy the sights, smells, and flavors as you browse through vegetables and groceries. Relish a classic Bengali morning with 'Jol-Khabar' (breakfast) and a warm cup of 'Chaa' (tea).

7) Exclusive Cultural Experience: End your journey with a special demonstration of an iconic cultural ritual of Durga Puja, unique to this community.

Bring out the photographer, the foodie, and the culture enthusiast in you! Embrace the vibrant Bengali spirit as part of the KNMA "City As A Museum" series, celebrating the art and soul of Durga Puja in Delhi.

Please note: Seats are limited, and booking is required to ensure you don't miss out on this unforgettable experience. Enjoy a surprise gift from KNMA and a taste of the special Bengali breakfast prepared just for you!
