Spontaneous Drawing

About the workshop

Spontaneous Drawing is different from other forms of drawing. It is not merely about a skill, but the very act of spontaneity. A means to inculcate it into our daily lives - giving the mind room to breathe, to explore uninhibitedly and embolden us to lead an inspired life. It’s focus is on the inner transformation that art produces - more about the journey and less about the destination/drawing.

Using unconventional modalities in drawing, to still the mind, heighten concentration and focus and enable spontaneous expression, this workshop has helped students magically delve into their innate creative abilities, destress and accept imperfection and change with alacrity.

Experiential learning through playful and non-judgemental creativity in all areas of life, including corporate executives and management professionals as also aspiring artists and designers.

The Workshop Modality

The workshop conducted on-site will be of a duration of 2 hours. During these workshops, the participants will be guided to draw in a variety of ways, sometimes taking them outside their comfort zone, challenging their preconceived notions and encouraging them to draw spontaneously. Journaling is an additional quotient of the workshop where participants will be required to note their experience after each day. The session is interactive and participants will share their drawings, during the workshop.

About the Facilitator

Gopika Nath is a practising textile artist, writer and a teacher with over thirty years of experience of teaching at various art and design institutes. For the last decade she has also been conducting on-line master classes. A Fulbright Scholar and alumnus of Central St. Martin’s School of Art and Design(CSM), U.K, She lives and works in Goa, India.

Gopika’s teaching methodology builds on psychological theories, such that Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi called an “optimal experience” – a satisfying involvement that generates a state of consciousness called ‘flow’ when people typically undergo deep enjoyment, profound creativity, and a total engagement with life. During her workshops, countless students have recounted tapping into that quiet reservoir of inner calm and inspiration.
