‘Dvaya Kala, a confluence of visual and performing arts’ is an innovative programme exploring various styles of folk art and dance performances.

Visual and performing arts have a strong influence on the development of society. The Visual Arts such as photography, painting, sculpting and drawing and Performing Arts such as theatre, public speech, dance, music, and more give a way to express feeling, emotion, opinion, or taste. While the one is displayed and the other are performed, they complement each other forming a seamless continuum. Not only do the arts provide pleasure and creative inspiration, they also help foster dialogue and bring important issues to the public eye.

Art also has an amazing power to foster cross-cultural understanding and collaboration between different societies as the artists in all cultures deal with the essentials of human existence shorn of the external rules and trappings of societies.

Through these series of workshops, participants will immerse themselves in the wonderful world of folk art and classical dance forms. We will be focusing on making of various products like Bookmarks, Coasters, Gift Cards etc. while shedding some light on different folk art styles like Kanchi, Bharni, Godna.

Session 1

Motif:  Fish

Date:   16.01.2021

Dance: Based on shlok / story pertaining to the motif

Art:      Madubani Introduction to the Kachni style

Product: Bookmark

Materials Required (to be arranged by the participant): Book mark cut-out of thick paper (white/any light colour). Size: 2.5” x 6” approx., Thin tipped gel pens (one each: black, red and blue), Piece of Ribbon (about 6inch) to tie for Bookmark, Pencil, Eraser, Ruler, Scissors, Punch to make a hole, 2 /Blank Sheets for Rough Work.

 

Session 2

Motif:  Sun

Date:   23.01.2021

Dance: Based on shlok / story pertaining to the motif

Art:      Madubani Introduction to the Bharni style

Product: Coaster

Materials Required (to be arranged by the participant):  2 Pieces of Coaster cut out of Thick Paper (white/any light colour) Size: 5inch diameter approx., Thin Tipped Gel Pen (one each: black, red), One Teaspoon Haldi in a small Bowl, Pencil, Eraser, Ruler, Flat/Thick Round Brush – any size to colour the background, Water (half cup), A regular Water Glass/ Bangle to draw circle, 2 Blank Sheets for rough work, Rough Cloth/Paper Napkins to wipe finger.

 

Session 3

Motif:  Bird, Cow, Flower

Date:   30.01.2021

Dance: Based on shlok / story pertaining to the motif

Art:      Madubani Introduction to the Gonda style

Product: Gift Cards

Materials Required (to be arranged by the participant):  4 Folded Cards of Thick Paper (white/any light colour) Size: 3x3 inches approx., Thin Tipped Gel Pens (one each: Black, Red, Green, Blue), Pencil, Eraser, Ruler, 2 Blank Sheets for rough work.
